Hello! When encountering the error that the "Field original asset is not ready for input" during a data migration using SAP's Legacy Transfer Migration Cockpit (LTMC) for asset migration, it generally indicates an issue with the readiness of this field in the migration object structure or a missing configuration in the Financial Asset Management (FI-AA) module.

Here's how you can troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

    1. Check Field Status in Asset Accounting (FI-AA): Ensure that the field for the original asset is set to optional or required in the asset master record's field status group. This configuration is managed in the Asset Accounting module.

      • Go to transaction code OAYZ or use the IMG path: Financial Accounting (New) → Asset Accounting → Master Data → Screen Layout → Define Screen Layout for Asset Master Data.
      • Check the field group that includes the "original asset" field. Make sure that it is set to "optional" or "display" based on your requirement.
    2. Update Migration Object Structure in LTMC: Sometimes, the field mapping or structure in LTMC might not be ready to accept inputs for certain fields if they are not configured correctly.

      • Go into the LTMC, select your project, and choose the migration object you are working with (in this case, probably something related to assets).
      • Review the field mapping for the original asset to ensure it is mapped correctly and that the system is configured to accept values for this field during the migration process.
      • You may need to regenerate the structure in LTMC if there have been changes in the source structure or field status in SAP.
    3. Modify Project-Specific Settings: If you have specific settings or adaptations in the LTMC project, ensure that they align with the requirements of the asset data being migrated. Sometimes custom settings in LTMC might restrict certain fields.

    4. Pre-Migration Checks: Execute pre-migration checks available in LTMC to identify any potential issues before performing the actual data load. This feature can help identify misconfigurations or missing data that could impact the migration process.

    5. Consult the Data Migration Template and SAP Notes:

      • Ensure you are following the guidelines provided in the SAP data migration template for assets. There might be specific instructions or notes regarding the handling of the "original asset" field.
      • Also, search for any relevant SAP Notes or SAP Knowledge Base Articles (KBAs) that might address this specific issue or related issues in asset migration.

If after trying these steps, you’re still facing issues, it might be necessary to involve your SAP support team or a consultant who specializes in SAP FI-AA, as they might need to look deeper into configuration and customization settings specific to your SAP environment.

Always ensure to test the migration in a non-production environment to validate the changes before applying them in the production system.
