SAP PS / Project planning with material costing

Hello Forum,
I am looking for a solution to the following issue:
We are a plant manufacturer and handle our customer projects in SAP PS. For each project there is also an SD order, in which the order items correspond and are linked to a WBS element. However, the WBS elements are our cost objects. These are divided into asset components according to the asset structure. In principle, the system has existed in this form for quite a long time, but we do not use networks, for example.
Today, we write our planned project costs (cost of goods manufactured) in principle as a total plan value per WBS element (summarized on level 2) via primary cost planning vicariously to a cost element (technically primary cost planning in CJ40 or via the Excel upload in CJR2). My problem is that this planning is very rough and often very inaccurate, since the planned costs are estimated "pi by thumb" and it is also difficult for the planners to estimate which costs are still to come during the course of the project. At the same time, however, there is also a bill of material for each WBS element to be planned, and I would like to use the material cost estimate to determine the expected HC per WBS. This is technically possible, but I don't want to have to create countless calculations manually.
My question is therefore, is there a good way to calculate the project BOM for project planning and also to integrate this data into project reporting? In addition, it would be desirable to be able to recalculate the project BOM or all the WBS elements contained in it when the occasion arises.
I hope I was able to describe my request in a halfway understandable way. I would be very grateful for ideas and suggestions.
Many greetings
Stephan

... A further thought on our project:
One could of course create a unit costing in CJ40 for each WBS element and insert the respective material here. This would allow you to assign the material cost estimate to the WBS element, provided of course that a standard price is maintained.
The problem from my point of view:
1.) The maintenance of a standard price would be from my point of view only a vehicle, but not necessarily intended for this.
2.) Very time-consuming, since our projects usually have > 100 WBS elements (at level 2).
3.) Additionally high effort, if I want to update/revalue the cost estimates (call each unit cost estimate and re-evaluate?).
In my opinion, the best way to solve this would be to write an ABAP that automates these steps, but it is certainly not a very nice solution. It has to work in the standard somehow, right?
So I am looking forward to your idea.
    Many greetings
